Took a trip to Luoyang to visit the Longmen Grottoes and the Peony Park!
The Grottoes are one of a set of three or four famous grottoes in China. They are filed with statues of Buddhas, Pagodas, and other iconographs Longmen is particularly famous for its stone carvings and statues; sadly many of them were destroyed by looters and thieves.
The Grottoes run alongside the stunning Yi river, a large, sweeping river that runs along the cliffs, decorated by ghostly temples and ancient buildings hidden in the fog.
This week was the Peony Festival - a national festival hosted in the ancient capital Luoyang - home to the most famous of the peony gardens. It was a truly beautiful sight, despite the rain and crowds.
Wonderful visit!
